GIS (Geographic Information System) is the wave of the future who’s time in now here. Everyone who’s on an operation level in the oil field dealing with placement of wells, pipelines, or other facilities should learn some basic GIS. While there are some very expensive programs out there like Landmark that run over $12,000 all pimped out, we’ve found a company that provides education on a FREE open source GIS program called Quantum and they even offer one day classes on it. Even better, for those who don’t like to travel, they even have online GIS classes that only take a day!
